PAINTING
With the establishment of SWARTS DESIGN CO. in 2002 came the exploration of other mediums namely painting. The materials primarily used are acrylic, oil, watercolor, gouache, pen & ink, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and a little mixed media collage work. Coming from a Printmaking/New Media background, layering was inevitable to start and the abundance of exaggerated doodle is prevalent. The chaotic need to fill a composition has only yielded a greater need to simplify my design, which in return has changed my way of representing folklore, abstraction and surrealism, the three genres that I seem to gravitate to. Thankfully, a defining style has yet to materialize and really my training is still running it’s course. As a result, most of what you see is just the tip of the ice berg compared to the vast and unrelenting imaginative narratives that will soon be coming into fruition. Hopefully you as a viewer will find a connection with the humor and general lack of message or meaning displayed in each of these pure sensory simulations.
